Hand Appliqué Embroidered King Bedspread
A hand-appliquéd and hand-embroidered cotton bedspread in rich autumn and festive colours. These pieces are as much textile art as bedding: shapes of fabric are cut, applied to the cloth and stitched down by hand, then finished with hand embroidery. Each one is one of a kind, and a statement for the bed, a sofa or the wall.
Use it as a king-size bedspread or coverlet, as a generous throw, or hang it as a piece of textile art.
Choose your design
There are four different designs, one of each. Two are solid colours in deep wine and rich chocolate, and the other two are multi-coloured appliqué designs. Pick your favourite from the photos.
About appliqué
The word appliqué comes from the French for "applied". In this craft, cut pieces of fabric are laid onto a base cloth and stitched down to form a pattern or picture. In reverse appliqué, a shape is cut out of the top layer to reveal the colour beneath. India has a long appliqué tradition. In Odisha, the town of Pipli is famous for its bold, brightly coloured appliqué, known locally as chandua, which has been used for centuries to decorate the temple chariots and canopies of the Jagannath festivals. Today the craft is used on bedspreads, wall hangings, cushion covers and more.
